South Portland’s Memorial Middle School Closed Due to Oil Fumes
For the second time this week, South Portland Memorial Middle School cancelled classes Wednesday due to the smell of oil fumes in the building lingering after the boiler broke down on Monday.
The 40+ year old school is on the list be replaced at the cost of about $50 million, and the boiler failure is a good reason why. Fumes could be smelled in parts of the building on Tuesday when students returned and administrators chose to cancel classes Wednesday to deal with the issue.
According to News Center Maine, the South Portland School district met Wednesday to figure out what their next step is to deal with the odor.
