This Chart Will Make You Rethink Every Summer Dog Walk in Maine You’ve Ever Been On
I'll be the first dog mom to admit that I sometimes forget our adorable furry minions aren't wearing sneakers the same way that we are when we're walking on scortching sidewalks and asphalt roads.
What temperature can you walk a dog on pavement?
You don't have to be a scientist to know that asphalt temperatures run aggressively hotter than the air temperature. If you think you're having a hard time walking in 90 degrees, imagine how your dogs paws must feel with this knowledge.
"Studies show asphalt temperatures run on average 40-60° degrees hotter than the surrounding air temperature" - Frontharness
Air Temperature vs. Asphalt Temperature
According to fourpaws, at 125°F skin destruction can happen in 60 seconds. A 125°F pavement temperature is equal to anything from 65°F to 85°F air temperature.

How hot does Maine get in the summertime?
Maine typically doesn't get scorching hot enough in the summertime simply because the ocean breeze won't allow it so it's easy to forget that we also have to protect our doggos from getting burnt against their knowledge.
Heat adds up quickly on the sidewalk without us noticing. We have to remember that our poor pups probably won't be able to communicate how painful it really is when their lil pads hit the hot sidewalk.
It's our responsibility to pick up on our dogs cues all of the time, but especially on pavement walks during the summer time. Please take care of the pups without a voice!!
