Maine native Partick Dempsey announced that the 2018 Dempsey Challenge raised well over a million dollars for cancer treatment right here in Maine.

Someone is claiming to be Patrick Dempsey on social media and asking people for donations.

In 2016 6-year-old Dawson Churchill and 14-year-old Keegan Turner their mom to stage 4 cancer. And last month , 17-year-old Evan Burnell lost his dad to stage 4 cancer.

This year's Dempsey Challenge was another huge success and lost of participants even got their picture taken with Patrick Dempsey.

Every dollar raised by Dempsey Challenge participants directly benefits the Dempsey Centers — a leader in quality of life care for individuals and families impacted by cancer here in Maine.

The Dempsey Challenge 2017 is happening on October 7 and 8 at Simard Payne Park in Lewiston.
