Florida is in the news again, and not in a good way. This couple might get up to 15 years in prison for allegedly being seen doing the nasty on a public beach.

PLUS, under Florida law, they also have to register as sex offenders... for the rest of their lives.

According to the Miami Herald, the couple was convicted by a jury in less than 15 minutes after witnesses claimed a young girl saw the two having sex on a beach in daylight.

Jose Caballero, 40, and Elissa Alvarez, 20, were both charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior. Sentencing hasn't happened yet, but the state is seeking up to 15 years in prison for Caballero, due to his previous record.

According to witness statements, the three-year-old girl wasn't even sure of what she saw... her parents were. And god forbid she actually did see anything - she might grow up to become a sexually active adult. THE HORROR!

Just remember, this kid could have gone to the zoo and seen a whole lot more, and would have paid for the privilege. Instead, this couple is going to pay.

Here's our question for you: Is this fair? At every step of the way, people had the chance to stop this. The police could have given them a warning or told them to leave, the prosecutors could have charged them with a lesser offense, the judge could have refused to entertain charges that were this serious, and the very last failsafe - a jury of twelve Floridians - could have *not* thrown them under the bus in less than 15 minutes.

Should they be punished? Maybe. Is 15 years in jail and having to register as sex offenders for the rest of their lives the right punishment because a three-year-old's parents thought she might have seen something? Hopefully not. What do you think?
