This Sewer In Bangor Inspired Stephen King’s ‘IT’
Everyone from Bangor knows the corner of Jackson & Union Street well!
As a long-time resident of Bangor’s west side, seeing a car parked in front of the home of Stephen King on West Broadway is a very common occurrence. Fans from all over the world like to drive by and get a peek, and of course hope that he is actually there.
With the overwhelming success of "IT" and the sequel, "IT: Chapter Two", people have another reason to come to town and figure out the origins of Pennywise and the story of the film.
The book "It" came out way back in1986 and was Stephen King’s 22nd book, The story follows the experiences of seven kids who are terrorized by an evil entity that exploits the fears of its victims to disguise itself while hunting its prey. "It" appears in the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Fun fact: The late, great, Chuck Foster, is mentioned in the book!
In the book, the fictional town of Derry is a stand-in for Bangor, Maine. The now-iconic sewer drain where Pennywise dwells was inspired by the corner of Jackson and Union Street in good ol' Bangtown.
Stephen King has a brand new book called “Billy Summers” which comes out on August 3, and we will have much more on that coming soon!
Check out this video, and be prepared to pee your pants in horror at the end. I jumped out of my chair!
