Two Westrbook Police Officers has to be transported to Maine Med after being exposed to the opioid fentanyl during an early morning traffic stop.

When officers pulled over 36-year-old Marie Bowie of Westbrook, she started to try to hide and destroy drugs. As the two officers struggled with her in an attempt to take her into custody, a powder was released into the air covering everyone involved. The officers tested the power on the scene and came back positive as fentanyl and then one officer quickly began to feel the effects.

Everyone was transported to Maine Medical Center and the officer feeling the effects was back on the job later that night. Bowie was transported to the Cumberland County Jail after a brief visit to Maine Med.

She's charged with Unlawful Trafficking of Scheduled Drugs for the fentanyl, Unlawful Possession of Scheduled Drugs for methamphetamine, Assault on a Police Officer, Reckless Conduct, and Refusing to Submit to Arrest or Detention. Officers also seized almost $2500 in cash.
