Say hello to my brother's cat named Cheddar. For whatever reason, Cheddar climbed a tree just before last week's nor'easter and didn't come down. That's bad timing for Cheddar. So now what does my brother do?

How high up was Cheddar? High...

VERY high...

Cats are very good at climbing trees, but most aren't very good at climbing down. I get it. With those claws it's a lot easier to go up than down, and when you're climbing you don't know how far off the ground you are until you decide to stop.

So what did my brother do? Nothing. He waited. It's not the first time that Cheddar has been stuck in a tree. Last time he came down after a couple days.

My brother did document Cheddar's predicament on Facebook and wow did that upset some people!  The pitch forks and torches came out from some saying he should take action to get the cat down by calling the fire department or a tree service.

I particularly took issue with people who thought it was animal cruelty to not take steps to get the cat down. The cat climbed the tree on its own, he wasn't put there. It's dangerous to climb the tree to get the cat and calling a tree service to come out is expensive and reliant on their availability. The majority of fire departments don't rescue cats from trees as it's not an emergency.

After three days, waiting did the trick. Cheddar eventually found his way down and back into the house where he was warm and got a full belly.

So what would you do if your cat was stuck in a tree too high for you to reach with a ladder and all methods of trying to coax the cat down have failed?
