Police risk their lives day in and day out to protect us from danger and harm. Officer Travis Barnies of the Auburn Police Department didn't exactly risk his life on this call, but the driver of the car might not agree.

The driver called the police dispatcher to report they found a snake in their car. By the looks of the photos posted on the Auburn Police Department's Facebook page, it's just a little, harmless garter snake, but to the driver, a snake's a snake. They told the dispatcher they "would rather burn the car than touch the snake." Fair enough.

Officer Barnies arrived on the scene, extracted the snake from the car and he was released. Sure, many of you probably wanted it dead, but again...harmless. In fact, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, a bite from a garter snake may scare the you-know-what out of you, (my words, not theirs) but it will barely break the skin and they are not poisonous. So off he went to find another way to get around Auburn.
