For nearly 50 years, Dysart's Restaurant in Hermon, just south of Bangor on I-95, has been a late night choice for hungry truckers and locals. Those late nights are about to get shorter as Dysart's is changing its hours.

According to News Center Maine, starting October 1, the restaurant will close at midnight and not reopen until 5 a.m., after years of being open 24 hours a day.

During my college years in Bangor in late 80s and early 90s, I was introduced to Dysart's at 2 a.m. on a Saturday night. The food was amazing which sent me going back with friends again and again. The place was pretty busy for that time of night too since we weren't the only college students who took the short drive down the highway for some late night breakfast.

In recent years, the late night business has been a lot less than it was back in the day, so closing the doors at midnight and reopening at 5 a.m. seemed like the right thing to do.

Even without the overnight hours, if you've never taken the drive up to Dysart's, it's worth the trip. It's where that buttery, flaky pot pie crust became a national hit when Jack and Sonya Palmer's commercial bloopers went viral.
