5 Fun New England Places to Take the Family During School Vacation

School vacations can be challenging for both kids and parents.

The kids are sometimes so bored without their normal routine of school. Parents have to rearrange their whole schedule to accommodate the kids, and they have to think of activities for the week so they don't go insane.

There are plenty of things to do here in New England that are just a car drive away and will keep both the kids and adults happy.

The Boston Public Library is So Much More Than Books

Suggestion number one is the Boston Public Library. 

Depending on what they are into, you might get pushback from the kids if you mention the word "library" on school vacation. But it's the kind of place that you have to see to appreciate.

There is a lot to see at the library, and when you go, don't miss seeing the original John Singer Sargent paintings.

The Museum of Science in Boston, Massachusetts

As parents, you may have taken a field trip to Boston to see the Museum of Science in Boston.  Thousands and thousands of people visit the museum each week.

Much like science, the museum is changing all the time, and it is fun for the whole family.

Cost per ticket: $24 - $29.  Kids under three get in for free.

Sky Dive at SkyVenture in Nashua, New Hampshire

This place is awesome.  Where else could you go to sky dive unless you are in the Air Force?

I don't know of anywhere else but SkyVenture, located in the South End of Nashua, New Hampshire.  I have been to SkyVenture, and it was a blast.

I do admit, I was a little nervous about the whole thing, but there is someone in the tube with you the whole time.  You are taught to use hand signals if you want to be taken out, so don't worry.

Relax and enjoy the ride.

When I went there, they didn't have indoor surfing, but they do now.

It's not my bag, but getting in the water in the middle of winter doesn't sound bad for New Englanders.

Cost:  $65 for 1/2 hour in the tunnel.

The New England Aquarium in Boston, Massachusetts

Like the Museum of Science, the New England Aquarium might be a place that you visited when you were in school.  Millions of people have come inside and witnessed a world they would otherwise never see.  It's truly breathtaking.

Cost: It varies depending on what you choose to do, but timed visits are $25 for children and $34 for adults.

SkyZone Trampoline Park in Manchester, New Hampshire

I'd bet money that SkyZone in Manchester is going to be a kid favorite.  It's the kind of place where you will want to break out your inner child and have a ball.

I have four children, and they are all very different.  I have a gamer, a socialite, an academic, and a special needs child.  When we went as a family, everyone had a ball, especially Audrey, our girl with Down Syndrome.

It's a memory we will never forget.

Cost: $13 to $21 depending on how long you want to stay.

Bonus mention: If you live on the Seacoast and you want to stay closer to home, check out the Seacoast Science Center in Rye.  It's a wonderful destination for all.
