Waterfront property sure has been a bitch this winter in Maine.

Winter is already a hard season for restaurants in Maine. Mainers tend to hunker down in the winter, and going out isn't as easy as summer. For me, heading out to a great Maine restaurant in the dead of winter is the best, because it's just Mainers—no tourists crowding the scene. One of those places to sneak to for some great food and drinks is J's Oyster in Portland. But the historic flooding shut it down for a while.

If you know anything about Maine, Mainers, and J's Oyster, it's that we think flooding sucks, we get mad, sad, and then we get to work. Employees volunteered their time to come and clean, repair, and get things in working order to get back up and running.

They have been open for about a week right now, and I know that J's has fans throughout the country, but if you are in Maine and want some amazing seafood, it would be awesome to try and go to some of the places that had to shut down and are trying to get back to it. Part of why I love J's is that they are snarky. This is what they posted on their Facebook page at the height of the latest storm.

So looks like we won’t be opening this evening.
Any press is good press.
