Lewiston Police Share Touching Thank You to First Responders, Maine Community
The residents of Lewiston and nearby towns affected by last week's deadly shooting have now begun the healing process. So many people have connections with those we've lost, and even those who don't still feel pain and sorrow because these things don't happen in Maine, until now.
The search for Robert Card lasted for two-and-a-half days. Maine and the nation waited as hundreds of police officers, state troopers, and government agencies combed across Androscoggin County in search of him, eventually finding his body after he took his own life.
The Lewiston Police Department posted this message to all the first responders, businesses, and members of the community who supported them and their communities through this ordeal:
On behalf of every single member of the Lewiston Police Department, thank you.
Thank you to all the police officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, hospital staff and all others who helped in any way this week. We instantly came together to combat evil, minimize its effects, and bring this unthinkable tragedy to a resolve as quickly as possible.
Thank you to all our first responder family members. Being the spouses, children, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends of all those working this from start to finish must have been horrible. We thank you for pushing through and supporting us in these challenging professions, praying and hoping for the safety of all. We could not do what we do without you. We thank you, and the community undoubtedly thanks you as well.
Thank you to all the business owners who provided food and other resources all over the city. The outpouring of support with drop-offs, hugs and handshakes, and supportive words of encouragement still has us in awe.
Thank you to every member of the community who has supported the victims and the rest of the community. The memorials, vigils, signs, and more have been and will continue to be crucial to our healing.
All of you showed the world this week what it means to be a community. Whether you live in our great City or not, know that you are an integral part of Lewiston and together we are Lewiston Strong!
Lewiston Strong. All of Maine and the nation has got you. We'll heal together.
