Lori and I have participated for the last four years in the celebrity clam shucking contest at the Yarmouth Clam Festival. All four years, we've walked away losers. This year though, we were determined to change all that.

Every year, the Yarmouth Clam Festival invites local television and radio celebrities to compete in a clam shucking contest. Teams of two shuck clams for two minutes each. The team with the most clams that are shucked intact, with the neck and belly attached, is the winner. Lori and I have never won.

Competing this year along with Lori and me were Norm Karkos and Jim Keithly from WTMW 8, Jeff Peterson and Jennifer Long from WGME 13, Amanda Hill and Caroline Cornish from WCSH 6, Tom Porter and partner from MPBN and Stan Manning and Teddy McKay from Frank FM.

The smack talking began early on Twitter from last year's winner, Jeff Peterson.

We remained silent. Then when we found out Caroline Cornish was returning, we knew there was no way we could win. She's a ringer, winning this competition more times that I can count.

So I had a new goal. Just beat Teddy McKay. He taunted us by calling into the Q Morning Show a few days before the contest. There's no way we could let him beat us.

After an excruciating four minutes of shucking, I thought we were in last place. I get so afraid that I'm going to slice my hand open that it really slows me down. It's also not easy to get those things out in one piece.

So did we win? No. But....we got third place AND beat Jeff Peterson and Teddy McKay and got cool, giant mugs for trophies.

No surprise that the winners were Amanda Hill and Caroline Cornish, despite Amanda doing exactly what I feared by cutting herself. She said it was worth it.

Congratulations Amanda and Caroline, but watch your back. We were only three clams behind you. We're slowly making our way to the top!
