Maine Native Will Fly to International Space Station in September
NASA has announced that Caribou native Jessica Meir will be flying to the International Space Station in September.
41-year old Jessica Meir graduated from Caribou High School and went on to become an Assistant Professor of Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School. She has studied the diving physiology and behavior of emperor penguins in Antarctica and has a Master of Space Studies from the International Space University in Strasbourg, France.
In 2013 she was named an astronaut candidate by NASA and on Wednesday it was announced that she will be taking her first trip to the International Space Station.
She will head to Russia soon for training in preparation to be the co-pilot on the Soyuz spacecraft when it launches for the ISS in September. To say she is multi-talented is an understatement!
Good luck Jessica! You've made your fellow Mainers proud and we'll be watching your progress on the ISS!
