Maine Claims Title for Second Snowiest City in the United States

Mainers have a love-hate relationship with snow. If you love to ski, snowmobile, and build snowmen with the kids, you are always hoping for snow. If you hate shoveling, driving in snow, and clearing snow from the roof, you aren't a fan of the white stuff.

We choose to live in a state that gets its fair share of snow so we expect it. But did you realize of all the cities in states that have snowy winters, Maine has three in the top 25, with one coming in at number two?

Angi, formerly known as Angie's List, ranked the top 25 cities in the United States based on the average snowfall over the last five years. Here are the three in Maine, and where they landed on the list.

12. Portland - 50.02 inches average over five years

Portland can get some pretty big snowstorms, and over the last five years, they've averaged a bit over 50 inches.

11. Bangor - 50.52 inches average over five years

Bangor just barely squeaks by Portland at number 11 on the list with half an inch more.

2. Caribou - 82.14 inches average over five years

Caribou take the number two spot. Welcome to "The County." 82 inches is a lot of snow. The most Caribou has had in one calendar day is 28.6 inches. I've seen what snow in Aroostook County can be like firsthand when visiting friends in Madawaska.
