According to the Associated Press, overdose deaths in Maine dropped roughly 14% in the first quarter of the year.

A report that came out yesterday says there were 74 drug fatalities from January to March, compared to 86 the year before, according to the article.

Maine's Attorney General, Aaron Frey says he's still concerned about the opioid epidemic and a shift to other drugs in our state as the report also shows cocaine deaths were up from 25% in 2018.

Last year, overdose deaths dropped 15%. But the author of that report discouraged people from reading too much into the first quarter figures, saying quarterly numbers have been known to fluctuate.
