The current forecast for Memorial Day weekend in Southern Maine is looking perfect for a night at the drive-in movie theater. Friday through Sunday, temperatures will be in the 70's or 80's, and in the mid-50's to 60 once the sun goes down.

This is the weekend that Maine drive-ins typically open up for the season. The Bridgton Twin Drive-In Theatre is already open, while the Saco Drive-In at Aquaboggin, the Skylite Drive-In Theater in Madawaska, and Pride's Corner Drive-In in Westbrook will all be opening on Memorial Day weekend.

Pride's Corner Drive-In opened in 1953, and is still going strong 71 years later while remaining one of only five drive-in theaters still operating in Maine.

I remember seeing a double feature at Pride's Corner in 1983 with Superman III and the Dudley Moore version of Arthur, which is much funnier than the 2011 remake with Russell Brand in the role of Arthur Bach. Don't waste your time on it. Trust me.

To kick off Pride's Corner Drive-In's 2024 season, they're showing two family-friendly movies. The first is The Garfield Movie, with Chris Pratt as the voice of Garfield. By the look of this, trailer, it's a Garfield origin story. I'm not sure how I feel about Chris Pratt as Garfield. For me, the best voice of Garfield was Lorenzo Music, who sadly passed away in 2001.

The second feature is the fourth movie in the Ghostbusters franchise, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. I've yet to see it myself, but nearly all of the cast of the original Ghostbusters is back, including William Atherton, reprising his role as Environmental Protection Agency Inspector Walter Peck.

Showtimes are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at approximately 8:25 p.m. for Garfield and approximately 10:15 p.m. for Ghostbusters. Tickets are $20 for a car with up to two people, $30 for a car with three to five people, and $5 more for each additional person beyond five.

Tickets are available at the gate (which opens at 7:30), or online through Eventbrite.
