I grew up in Massachusetts about 45 minutes from New Hampshire, and as a kid, all of my favorite summertime spots were over the New Hampshire border.

Hampton Beach was my favorite, because there was the option to go play in the arcade if I was getting roasted by the sun. And of course, all of the best amusement parks were in the Granite State! If you got to go to Story Land, Canobie Lake Park, and Santa's Village all in one summer, we called that the amusement park trifecta.

I just learned about an amusement park in Jefferson that I never knew existed: Six Gun City in Jefferson, New Hampshire. Did you ever go?

According to a site called The Disappointed Tourist, Six Gun City was a Frontier Western-style attraction that was opened in 1954 by James and Eleanor Brady along Route 2 . The site claims that they built the attraction with their eight children on what was originally their farm.

The park offered "edu-tainment", and displayed artifacts touting life in the Old West. They also had live shows featuring cowboys, villains, and all that good stuff.

It sounds like I missed out on my calling to play the role of the damsel in distress who needs to be saved by the big strong cowboy! SHUCKS.

In 2014, the family decided to stop charging admission and to rename the park The Fort Jefferson Fun Park and Campground. Sadly, the cowboy skits were discontinued.

Folks had nothing to hold onto but their sweet memories and these snazzy souvenir cups:

Shoutout to Mark Torrey for sharing that gem on the Forgotten New Hampshire Facebook group. The photo, of course, prompted a stroll down memory lane. Folks started sharing their Six Gun City memories in the comments.

Someone had an AWESOME idea of what they could do with the space that was once Six Gun City: turn it into a western-themed campground! They could remodel the buildings to look like old saloons/hotels and rent rooms, or build some ranch-style bunk houses with a kitchen and bath. Maybe they could even have some horseback riding lessons and allow people to bring their own horses. It's a pretty genius idea!

With Yellowstone and 1883 being such a craze right now, I think that westerns are making a comeback, and someone should capitalize on it. Since I never got on the Yellowstone bandwagon, I would just pretend I was on an episode of the old-school Nickelodeon show Hey Dude. That is a very obscure reference, but if you get it, we can be friends.
