South Portland is on the Hunt for Gnomes, Do You Have One to Donate?
Go big or go gnome!
In May, SpringFest Community Celebration will happen with the South Portland - Cape Elizabeth Rotary. The president of the rotary club, Jim Britt has a dream. That dream is to make sure every young person who is at that festival leaves with a gnome.
Hence, the world's first-ever Gnome Drive is underway. You are encouraged to donate a new or lovingly used gnome. In a statement Britt said,
Since we announced the 2023 SpringFest Community Celebration gnome theme, these little loveable little creatures have started to appear almost magically. When an inexpensive gnome spots you shopping at local gift shops or other retailers, buy that gnome and donate it to the SpringFest Gnome Drive. If lovingly cared-for gnomes live in your closets or boxes in storage, set them free by donating them to the Gnome Drive.
Where and How to Donate Gnomes
Drop off new or like-new gnomes at any of the following locations. Gnomes should be dropped off in a plastic bag with a note including the donor's first and last name and email address to receive a proper thank you from South Portland - Cape Elizabeth Rotary. The Gnome Drive continues through May 17. Jim loves questions, so email him at president@sp-ce-rotary.org.

SpringFest in Mill Creek Park, South Portland, is scheduled for Friday-Saturday, May 19-20. The event begins with an unofficial kick-off in the form of the Saturday, March 11 (6 PM) Light Up the Sky Fireworks display at Fort Williams, Cape Elizabeth. It was postponed because of that pesky snowstorm. Let's get those gnomes donated!
