10 Things I’ve Learned You Should Never Say to Mainers
I consider myself a half-Mainer. Why is that? Well, I was born in Pennsylvania and bred here in Maine. I love this place so stinkin' much. However, because I am still very much attached to my PA roots, I sometimes make mistakes, even after living here for over 20 years. But with that experience of simple life, I am able to help the next person avoid what I have done way too many times.
Just recently, I called an Italian a 'Hoagie', and a local Mainer gave me a long speech about how incorrect I was. What was I thinking?
I also once asked why someone had their pants tucked into their socks. I assumed it was some kind of bogus fashion statement. I was wrong. Mainers tuck for ticks. It's for survival.
So because of the recent faux pas, I decided to make a list of the things I have learned to not do or say to a local in my 30 years here in Maine.
