
‘Best Seafood in the U.S.’ in New Hampshire Turns 75
A New England institution in Seabrook, New Hampshire, just turned 75.
Brown's Lobster Pound is an exception to the rule in the food industry. It has not only survived every recession, depression, or pandemic but also thrived. It has loyal customers to thank for that.

According to Seacoast Online, this all started with Hollis Brown on the first Friday in April back in 1950. It's now Hollis' son, Bruce, who runs the place. Bruce is in his late 80s and has been working at Brown's since he was 13 by his dad's side. Both of Bruce's sons, Robert and Bruce II, and his grandson Kaleb, all keep the place running!

“Mother's Day and Father's Day are two of our busiest. And, of course, summers starting around Memorial Day.” - Bruce Brown II
With the family looking back at 75 years in business, you can imagine they have a lot of memories. Bruce Brown told Seacoast Online, "Alive or cooked. Guess how much lobsters were back then? 35 cents a pound!" Family Destination Guide’s March 2025 review said that the place won't win awards for fancy architecture, but hiding inside a giant yellow building, is “The Best Seafood in the U.S.”

If this lobster thing doesn't work out for them, they could get into a match-making business. Bruce Brown II explained to Seacoast Online,
My father met my mother here. My brother Norman met his wife Sandy here; my brother Robert met his wife Kim here and I met my wife Cathy here. A lot of people who’ve worked here over the years have met the people they would marry at Brown’s.
