For nearly 50 years, the Valentine's bandit has plastered downtown Portland with hearts printed on 8.5 x 11 paper taped to windows and doors everywhere, along with one giant heart popping up somewhere on a Portland landmark.

In years past, the giant heart has shown up on Fort Gorges, the Casco Bay parking garage, the Portland Public Library and the latest and greatest Portland landmark, the Time and Temperature building.

Here's the crazy part. Our studio window looks right out over downtown Portland and front and center is the Time and Temperature building. When Lori, Brittany and I got to work this morning, the heart was not there. In fact, often turn around to look at the time and temp sign to get the temperature when doing the weather. 6:02 it still was not there.

When I looked up a mere twenty minutes later it had magically appeared. For years I've always hoped to spot the Valentine's Bandit, but very much like Santa Claus when I was a kid, he someone manages to show up completely undetected.

Well played.
