Car Stolen in Freeport and Three Hours Later Crashed in Windham
Freeport police posted on their Facebook page that a car was stolen from the local McDonald's on Monday, and Mainers took over from there.
But let's back it up for a second.
The owner of a sweet 1984 blue 4-door Oldsmobile Delta 88 belongs to Thomas. He loves this car and uses it to get to his two jobs in Freeport. He works at the fancy McDonald's and he also works at Napa.
Well, unfortunately, it was his car that was stolen around 630 a.m. Monday at the Freeport McDonald's.
According to Steve who owns a towing company in Freeport, Thomas is a 'polite, caring kid'. Thomas works hard and is a good, quiet kid. Very soft-spoken, funny, and has a huge heart.
And now he has to find rides to work.
That's because his car was not only stolen, but later in the day, it was seen in Windham by Kim Difazio. But at that point, it was in an accident on Route 302.
Not just an accident, but according to witnesses, the car thief rear-ended three other cars before fleeing the crash on foot.
Here's the good news. Police did catch the alleged thief of the car, a 31-year-old man from Portland. He's got a laundry list of charges, including assault on a police officer.
But that still leaves poor Thomas without a car, dealing with the insurance nightmare a stolen car can present. Not to mention that it was in a multi-car accident!
Hopefully, his 1984 sweet Olds can be fixed up.
Thanks to Mainers who stepped up to help the police find the car and identify the thief when he took off. And special thanks to Steve and Kim who shared their photos and some insight into Thomas, too.
We're thinking of you and sending good vibes your way, Thomas!
