Maine Sheriff’s Department Looking for the Person Who Abandoned a Kitten in a Plastic Tote

According to an article on the WGME website, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department is looking for a vehicle in connection with an animal cruelty case in Standish, Maine.

The article explains that on Saturday, May 18, someone reported finding a six-month-old kitten in the Bonny Eagle High School parking lot.  The kitten was inside a tote that had the lid on.  The kitten was alive, but cold and frightened.

The kitten was taken to a local vet clinic, but was later euthanized because of health issues she had due to lack of proper care.

Law enforcement is looking for the public's help in locating a truck that may be connected with the crime.  The truck in question is a white Chevy 2500 with a plow package.  The vehicle has an aftermarket black tailgate.

The suspect in the case is described as a heavyset, white male wearing an orange shirt, baseball cap, and jeans.

In Maine, animal cruelty is described as when:

a person, including an owner or the owner's agent, is guilty of cruelty to animals if that person intentionally, knowingly or recklessly:

A. Kills or attempts to kill any animal belonging to another person without the consent of the owner or without legal privilege. Violation of this paragraph is a Class D crime

These days, we are always hearing about people committing violent and cruel acts, but this one hits us a little harder.  The fact that someone would be so cruel to a helpless kitten makes us sick.
