Popular Brunswick, Maine, Restaurant and Bar Joshua’s to Close After 30+ Years
It's always sad when good things have to come to an end.
That can certainly be said with the news that Joshua's Restaurant and Tavern in Brunswick will close after being in the Maine town for over 30 years.
According to a Facebook post from the restaurant, the decision was made not to renew the lease with the final day of business being Saturday, September 28.
The popular local spot's website highlights that Joshua's was established in 1990 with a restaurant in that location run by the Siatras family for multiple generations.
The year-round tavern offered your typical pub fare like hamburgers, nachos and sandwiches along with steak and even seafood. It also boasted a selection of 15 beers on tap and numerous other drinks to enjoy as well.
Joshua's Restaurant and Tavern is named after Joshua Chamberlain, the famous Union officer, former Maine governor, and Bowdoin College president who had a home in Brunswick. You can even take a tour of it as it is now a museum.
The current restaurant owners expressed their gratitude in the Facebook post for the "meals, tears, cheers, and milestones" they've shared with patrons and their workers over the years:
"We knew this day would come, but until you say it out loud, it just doesn’t quite seem like reality. As our staff knows, we have made the bittersweet decision to not renew our lease this fall. Joshua’s has had an incredible run, spanning 3+ decades and many embodiments- but we’ve made no secret that our time as the stewards of this particular adventure was coming to an end. Joshua’s final day of business will be September 28th. Both Tj & I are eternally grateful for the meals, tears, cheers, and milestones we’ve gotten to share with you and our amazing coworkers over the years."
Of course, the comments flooded in wishing the owners well, expressing sadness for the closing, and the good memories had over the years.
Here are just a few of the comments:
"Thank you for the years of service, reunions and a place that feels like home for all of us that have moved away. You’ve been a staple in our lives. Though sad to see this come to an end I’m excited for you to move on from the years you have dedicated to the town of Brunswick and enjoy retirement."
"This was my “spot” when I first moved to Maine. Met so many wonderful people and many friends here. Lots of great memories (some a wee fuzzy) from days and nights in that space. You’ll be missed!"
"Thanks for all of the memories, and all the best to you guys and the entire crew"
"A sad day indeed, thanks for the memories and for setting an example of how an establishment becomes part of the community. Best of luck going forward TJ and Cheri."
Sad to see them go, but thanks for the memories.
Will you miss Joshua's? Is there a restaurant that closed in Maine you still miss and wish would come back?
