RUMOR: Something New Going Into Former Krispy Kreme in Auburn
When Krispy Kreme closed both of their Maine stores in Auburn and Saco back in April, Mainers were very disappointed, but many wondered what might might move into the former locations.
We've heard a rumor about another national chain restaurant going into the former Krispy Kreme location on Center Street in Auburn. Keep in mind, this is strictly a rumor as nothing has been confirmed, but we heard on some pretty good authority that a Chipotle Mexican Grill will be moving into the former Krispy Kreme space in Auburn.
Chipotle has been popping up in some of Maine's larger cities over the past few years, bringing their made to order burritos, bowls and salads to us. Portland, South Portland, Westbrook, Bangor and Augusta all have stores, so the Lewiston/Auburn area seems like a logical choice.
If you've never experienced a Chipotle, the best way to describe it is like the Mexican food version of Subway. Everything is made to order in front of you with all the fixings you choose. Burritos are the most popular choice, but you can go with a burrito bowl instead, get a salad or even tacos. They also offer sides of chips and salsa or guacamole if that's how you roll.
Remember, this is a rumor! Nothing has been confirmed. However, feel free to come back here in a few months to see if I was right.
