Scarborough, Maine’s Seaside Gem: Higgins Beach Market Reopens
YES! We are all so excited to see this little icon of a beach shack open back up again. It signifies a lot of things that I think a lot of us have been waiting for all winter. Once you see that Higgin's Beach Market has reopened to the public, it's the official sign that summer is back again in Maine.
If you've never noticed the little beachy shack nestled into the cross roads of Spurwink Road on your way to one of Maine's most beloved beaches (Higgin's Beach in Scarborough), then you must keep your eyes peeled the next time you're in the area.
It's called Higgin's Beach Market, and they sell everything from merchandise to lobster rolls and surfboards, since Higgin's is actually a huge surf beach. A quick side note you didn't ask for: I actually was taught how to surf on this beach, so it holds a sentimental place in my heart. I also got completely leveled by a huge wave and my face dragged across the ocean floor, giving me a pretty good scar on my cheek. But it gives me character, right?
On the off-seasons in the winter, this is my dog's favorite beach to romp around on, just because the surface area is so large. You could say that this is a favorite spot of mine during all seasons in Maine.
Here's the market hours for the summertime, according to their website:
Kitchen Hours: 7am-2pm
Market Hours: 7am-6pm
You can even order ahead of time here.
Congrats on the reopen Higgin's Beach Market. Let our beautiful Maine summer begin!
