Last June, Carol Sharrow drove onto Goodall Park during a kids baseball game and killed 68-year-old Douglas Parkhurst from West Newfield.

According to the Portland Press Herald, a judge found Sharrow not criminally responsible and had her committed to Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta. No one from the defense team challenged that conclusion.

It was a horrible story last June when she drove her Honda onto the field erratically. There were around 300 people at the park and witnesses said that as she sped around the bases, she hit Douglas Parkhurst. He was seen pushing kids out of the way before he was hit as she left the scene.

Carol Sharrow was charged with manslaughter and 11 counts of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.

She has a long history of mental illness and was first hospitalized for it back in 1987.

Her time at Riverview is indefinite and she will stay there until she progresses. The family of Mr. Parkhurst didn't speak at the hearing, and the judge acknowledged that it can be unsatisfying to have a person found not guilty by reason of insanity.
