Portland, Maine, is getting its very first dog bar and restaurant thanks to Woof Play Eat.

News about the pup-friendly spot was reported by Portland Food Map back in May 2025, when the business leased the 15,000+ square feet of space at 49 Northport Drive.

Flash forward to January 2026, and Woof Play Eat has announced the first phase of its opening.

Woof Play Eat in Portland, Maine, Opens Its Indoor Dog Park

According to a press release, Woof Play Eat has officially opened its doors to its expansive indoor-outdoor dog park and enrichment-focused daycare.

And it's the perfect time, too, what with the insanely low temperatures, meaning your pups can run around and play in the massive dog park space with highly-trained staff overseeing safe, supervised play.

If you're looking to drop off your canine, there's a separate space for the doggy daycare, which, the press release highlights, has "multiple play areas that support structured activities and appropriately matched groups."

Of course, safety is a huge priority, so spaces are monitored by trained staff. Dogs also must have proof of registration, up-to-date vaccinations, and complete a temperament assessment before they come in to play.

When Does Woof Play Eat's Dog Bar and Restaurant in Portland, Maine, Open?

While the first phase of opening allows your pups to play inside, the second phase, with the dog bar and restaurant, is not far behind. While a specific date hasn't been revealed yet, the word is "soon."

So get excited for that aspect of the Portland spot.

The Woof Play Eat website notes that the full-service restaurant and bar "serves everything from coffee to hand-crafted cocktails," as well as pizzas, burgers, salads, and more.

Oh, and don't worry, your dogs will be able to get some food from a pup-friendly menu as well.

So while you might not be sipping a beer alongside your canine just yet, Woof Play Eat is already giving Maine dog owners a huge climate-controlled place where pups can safely run, socialize, and burn off energy all winter long.

And when the bar and restaurant officially open, it won’t just be a dog park but rather a full-fledged hangout for both humans and their four-legged best friends.
