Thousands of cars travel down route 1 everyday through Brunswick and pass what had become a Brunswick institution, Ebenezer's Brewpub. But that car traffic did not lead to foot traffic and rather abruptly, the owners of Ebenezer's have decided to shut down the popular brewpub.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Lively Brewing, which is the in-house beer for Ebenezer's, saw a tremendous drop in production in 2017 as demand for the beer slagged. Competition from new breweries, and old breweries that are increasingly becoming more creative, is the likely culprit for the demise.

The closure of Ebenezer's Brewpub in Brunswick will not affect Ebenezer's Pub in Lovell, Maine. That pub has been recognized as one of the best pubs in the world by multiple publications, and remains a destination for locals and tourists when visiting Maine on a beer-cation.

It was the popularity of the original Ebenezer's in Lovell that spurred the Brewpub to open in Brunswick back in 2014. Three years later, it just couldn't compete. This is first brewery to shut down in Maine in nearly two years.
