Portland Police Department received word that there were armed counter-protesters at the Black Lives Matter rally on June 2nd. According to the Portland Press Herald, when the department got the anonymous tips, they staged to look-outs and snipers on the roofs of buildings to neutralize any potential threat.

“They actually did show up, and They were actually armed. We intercepted them before they made it there, we also discovered other individuals in the crowd that were legally possessing firearms, but their intent was not known. I think that’s an important note to make.” Commander James Sweatt told the Police Citizen Review Subcommittee in a virtual meeting Wednesday Evening.

This comes after photos surfaced on Instagram last week of an armed portland officer on a roof with his gun trained on the crowd. It is good to know that the police were able to keep outside elements from disturbing the protest.
