Flooding Causes Closure of Several Maine Roads

Friday's intense rain has caused the temporary closure of some of Maine's busier roads.  In other cases, flooding has caused some roads to be reduced to one lane.

According to WMTW, Bond Spring Road in Newfield, near the intersection of Shady Nook Road, is down to one lane.

Also, North Road north of Gibson Road in Bethel and Route 17 near Houghton Road in Byron are reportedly flooded.

According to New England 511, there is water over a section of Route 173 in Liberty.  The road was open as of 2pm, but you want to avoid it if possible.

The website also reports water over one lane of Route 220 in Washington, Maine.

As of  2pm, Route 197, near 230 Litchfield Road in Wales is closed because of a downed tree.  The New England 511 website reports that Central Maine Power has been called about the incident.  You are going to want to find an alternate route.

In Greene, Greene Sawyer Road from Sanborn Road to Hot Dog Road is down to one lane due to flooding.

In Brownfield, Route 5 near the intersection of Shepherds River Road has been reduced to one lane due to flooding.  You are going to want to find an alternate route.

While these partially flooded roads may be open, you should avoid using them whenever possible.  Even if a road appears only to be covered in a few inches of water, the water may actually be much deeper.

According to Weather.com, the rain will soon start to taper off throughout much of Maine.  Saturday is going to be cloudy, but a lot dryer.  The sun is expected to return on Sunday.
