It's been nearly a year since Market Basket broke ground in Topsham. When will it open?

So the short answer to when will the Topsham Market Basket open is in the next few months. According to the Sun Journal, a rep from Market Basket said that the exact date hasn't been set.

I can't blame people for being anxious. Ground was broken and construction started in May of 2023 at the Topsham Fair Mall. This new store will be 80,000 square feet of awesomeness. Market Basket's operation manager, Joe Schmidt, told the Sun Journal,

Construction is moving along and we’re happy with the pace, but we’re not ready to announce (an opening date). We’re excited for it, and we’re looking forward to bringing the state-of-the-art facility to the area.

This will be the 90th Market Basket, and will have over 50,000 items and around 300 employees. Plus, there will be a café to sit in. Market Basket will also foot the bill to improve roads, crosswalks, speed bumps, a traffic circle, and the reconstruction of the I295 southbound ramp.

It's been 10 years since Market Basket made international headlines.

The Massachusetts-based chain (which has been around since 1917!) made headlines back in 2014. That's when workers went on strike for weeks because they fired the CEO Arthur T. Demoulas. How loved is this CEO? This is what Wikipedia says,

Arthur T. was known for his ability to remember his employee's names, birthdays, and milestones, attending many of their weddings and funerals, checking in on ill workers, and asking about the spouses and children of his employees. He was seen as a father figure by a number of his employees and compared to It's a Wonderful Life protagonist George Bailey for his willingness to put people over profit.

Yeah. The board hired him back.

Will Market Basket open in any other Maine location?

Right now, there are no plans to open another store in Maine. So Westbrook, Biddeford, and soon Topsham, consider yourselves lucky!
